Massively's First Impressions Review

March 5, 2010

Those of you who have been keeping a close eye on Aika references in the online gaming world may have noticed Massively.com's refreshingly down-to-earth and comprehensive review of our CB2.  Writer Beau Hindman discusses the overall experience, the Pran, PvP, and the surprise of finding actually friendly players in a PvP-focused MMORPG (he might not have been in Vanov):

And while those non-PvPers might see a game like Aika and sneer due to its PvP nature, I can say that the game seems to give PvEers plenty to do, as well. I am now approaching my double digits and do not need to search very hard to find a PvE quest, and despite the reputation of PvP games being made up mostly of villains and bogeymen, I found almost every player that I came across to be friendly and helpful.

In fact, during a mission to find materials for acquiring my Pran, I asked someone if they knew where the materials might drop. I had been at it for a long time, stacking body after body of grunty pig-men at my feet, with no luck towards my goal of finding just three more "water essences", and I was becoming frustrated. Not only did they tell me where I might find them, but healed me during the process and gave me tips. Then, after realizing that even with her help that I might be doing this for quite a while longer, she simply instructed me to follow her.

A few minutes later, she opened a trade window with me and filled it with the materials I needed! I asked her what I owed, and she just turned, ran off and said "Nothing, I have about 400 of those! :)"

Check out the article and comment on it with your own experiences!  Do you agree or disagree with Beau's conclusions?  How about the conclusions of the commenter who said "Any game that takes 10-15 hours to be fun isn't worth the attention"?  Let's get the word out about Aika!

And for those of you who miss your Pran, Beau sympathizes with you and had this picture in the article:

Relic Upgrade Guide

March 4, 2010

Hello Aika fans!

Our CB2 is over, but that doesn't mean we won't be bringing you the hardest-hitting guides and updates for Aika!

On the media front, Ten Ton Hammer has posted its in-depth Cleric interview with screenshots and entertaining analysis of Aika's healer class.

Ten Ton Hammer:  Will Clerics need to hire bodyguards, or can they take up for themselves when the opposing faction is hunting them down?

Christina: The Cleric’s main focus in the PvP realm is on supporting more attack-oriented classes.  The spells which the Cleric utilizes tend to have a more defensive flavor to them, but that doesn’t mean they’re less powerful or significant than offensive skills.  This class may need a helping hand at a lower level, but once they reach higher levels they can definitely handle themselves well in PvP.  Their healing capabilities will be more than enough to get them out of danger if need be, and their enemies might be left thinking, “Man, that little girl is tough!”

The Aika team would also like to give a shoutout to bloggers nekomarj and YakumoLove for taking the time to post about our CB2.  Coincidentally, they were both Clerics - perhaps it's a theme.

Did you ever find yourself nearly tripping over a large chunk of caelium embedded in the ground in Verband?  If you wondered what those rocks could possibly be used for, and/or if you're interested in strengthening relic buffs, read on to learn more about the relic upgrade system!

Farewell, CB2!

March 2, 2010

Thanks very much to everyone who participated in Aika's Closed Beta #2!  We had a ton of fun and we hope you did, too.  We'll be going through all of your feedback right away to make Aika even better the next time around.  Keep coming back for more announcements about Aika - we'll be telling you more very soon!

Speaking of which, it seems like people have noticed how much we improved from CB1!  Daniel Ball of MMOHub had this to say in his preview of CB2:

The animations seemed to have tightened up in this beta. In the first closed beta I experienced some trouble with the animations lagging as well as my character seeming as though she was sliding around the place whenever I changed direction. Although there is still a slight amount of sliding going on, the animations (even generally speaking and not just the running animation) have been smoothed out quite a bit. That popup you used to get about ‘speed hacks’ is nonexistent now, and not once did I get forcefully logged out, which means things are really being fixed by the Aika team.

Before the servers closed, our GM team concocted one last PK and mob-killing extravaganza around Tabazra Temple in Feonir.  Great screenshots below!

Crafting and Equipment Enhancement, Part II

March 1, 2010

Only 1 more day left in CB2!  We hope you all have been having a wonderful time, and thanks to everyone who has sent in bug reports - we'll be going through those very carefully to make the game even better the next time we all meet in Lakia.

The Aika team would like to give a shoutout to OnRPG, which recently featured a special Aika interview which looks at the item shop and various development issues in addition to the major features of the game.

OnRPG: This is one question which affect most players of Free To Play games. To what extent will the Cash Shop (when released in Spring 2010) affect the gameplay of Aika?

Aika's Item Shop will be an incredibly useful supplement to everything that is already available in the game. A large portion of the items will functionally relate to easier customization of your character. Everything that you need to optimize your character is already available in Aika, but our Item Shop will allow players to eliminate some of the randomness involved in creating the perfect PvP build.

Read on for the second part of our two-part guide to crafting.  Interested in basic equipment creation and disassembly?  This is the newspost for you!
